SOCHI, Russia, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Germany won the Olympic gold medal Thursday in the first Olympic luge relay ever held.
The silver medal was won by Russia and the bronze went to Latvia.
Each country sent a woman, a man and a men's doubles team down the ice in succession and the combined time of the three sleds determined the medals.
Germany completed a sweep of the four luge events at these Olympics. It was the first sport to complete its Olympic program.
