Supporters of skier rally on Internet after topless photos emerge

BEIRUT, Lebanon, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Supporters of Lebanese Olympic skier Jackie Chamoun came to her defense after politicians criticized her for topless photographs she posed for three years ago.

Chamoun, 22, was criticized Tuesday in Beirut, Lebanon, publications after the discovery of topless photos taken three years ago for a calendar.

Interim Youth and Sports Minister Faisal Karami asked for an official investigation "to (avoid) harming Lebanon's reputation" and suggested Chamoun may be banned from future Olympic Games.

Thousands of Chamoun's fans took to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to show their support, the (Beirut) Daily Sun reported Wednesday.

"Is showing boobs worse than supporting armed groups who kill indiscriminately? Get your priorities right," said one.

An apology by Chamoun, on her Facebook page, drew 4,000 comments, many saying she had nothing for which to apologize. A Facebook group, "Boobs 4 Lebanon" urged users to upload topless photos in solidarity with Chamoun, the newspaper noted.
