SOCHI, Russia, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- The Canadian sister duo of Justine and Chloe Dufour-LaPointe earned both an Olympic gold and silver medal for the family Saturday in moguls freestyle skiing.

Justine and Chloe were joined by another sister, Maxime, in the finals of the event, and although Maxime failed to earn a spot in the last six, it turned out to be the best showing by a single family in one event ever at the Winter Games.

Justine won the gold with a run down the hump-filled course that earned her a score of 22.44. Chloe received a score of 21.66 and defending champion Hannah Kearney wound up third at 21.49.

In a change of format since the last Olympics, 20 skiers qualified for the finals. Each one then made a run on the course and only the top 12 moved on to the next round.

The scores from the first round were thrown out and after the next series of runs the field was trimmed from 12 to six. Once again, the scores were discarded and it was left to single score produced in the last run to determine the medal winners.

Aiko Uemura of Japan was fourth, Britteny Cox of Australia was fifth and Eliza Outtrim of the United States was sixth.
