FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Feb. 7 (UPI) -- A Florida judge ordered mixed martial arts fighter Thiago Silva held without bail Friday after reducing attempted murder charges to aggravated assault.
Silva also lost his contract with Ultimate Fighting Championship, ESPN reported. The light heavyweight had been scheduled to fight March 15 in Dallas.
Police reports produced in court said Silva was arrested Thursday night at this home in Fort Lauderdale. He allegedly threatened his estranged wife outside the Pablo Popovitch Mixed Martial Arts Academy in Oakland Park, showing her a gun and telling her to bring Popovitch out or he would go in and begin shooting everyone.
Silva fled after Popovitch called 911, police said.
Judge John Hurley found that prosecutors had made a case for holding Silva without bond. In addition to the serious charges against him, Silva, a Brazilian national, is considered a flight risk.
