BUFFALO, N.Y., Feb. 5 (UPI) -- Sidney Crosby warmed up for the Olympics by taking part in a scoring outburst Wednesday that brought Pittsburgh a 5-1 win over Buffalo.
The top team in the Eastern Conference easily handled the bottom team with Marc-Andre Fleury making 24 saves.
Fleury gave up an early goal to Drew Stafford, but the Penguins then took over to win their second straight and become the first team in the Eastern Conference with 40 victories.
Harry Zoinierczyk tied the game with 4:59 to go in the opening period and Crosby gave Pittsburgh the lead on the power play 2:08 into the second.
Crosby will captain the Canadian team when the Olympic hockey tournament begins on Feb. 13. He scored the winning goal four years ago in the gold medal game against the United States.
Pittsburgh turned Thursday's game into a rout with goals from Evgeni Malkin, Brian Gibbons and James Neal.
All five goals were allowed by Ryan Miller on 34 shots.
