Airlines reportedly warned about toothpaste tubes

Feb. 5, 2014 at 5:45 PM   |   Comments

WASHINGTON, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- Airlines flying to Russia have been warned explosives can be concealed in toothpaste tubes and cosmetics bottles, a source tells CNN.

The advisory was sent out as security agencies gear up for the opening of the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, Friday. The source said there was no specific threat about toothpaste and cosmetic containers.

The Department of Homeland Security in a statement said advisories are typically issued "out of an abundance of caution."
