NEW YORK, Feb. 4 (UPI) -- Ryan Callahan ignited a potent offense with two goals and an assist Tuesday, highlighting the New York Rangers' 5-1 spanking of Colorado.

Brad Richards and Derick Brassard each contributed a goal and assist and Anton Stralman also scored for the Rangers, who outshot the Avalanche 20-4 in the first period on their way to a 2-0 lead.

Henrik Lundqvist turned aside 27-of-28 shots as New York bested the Avs for the first time since Jan. 3, 2010.

Gabriel Landeskog got the only goal Colorado, which had its four-game winning streak snapped.

Semyon Varlamov logged 38 saves.
