Kevin Stadler jumps in rankings after first PGA win

VIRGINIA WATER, England, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Kevin Stadler leaps 70 spots in the men's world golf rankings after joining his father as a PGA Tour champion.

Stadler won the Waste Management Phoenix Open, his first PGA title, with a final round 68 Sunday. His father, Craig Stadler, won 13 times on the PGA Tour. The win in Arizona lifts Kevin Stadler from 127th to No. 57 in the rankings.

Stephen Gallacher, despite being 4-over for his first nine Sunday, repeated as champion at the European Tour's Omega Dubai Desert Classic and is up 30 spots in the rankings to No. 37.

There was one change in the golf Top 10 this week, with Zach Johnson edging ahead of Rory McIlroy for sixth in the rankings. McIlroy had a final-round 74 at Dubai and ended up tied for ninth.

Tiger Woods, who tied for 41st in Dubai at 6-under, remains No. 1 in the rankings. He's held the top for a total of 669 weeks.

The PGA Tour has one of its marquee events this week at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in California where No. 17-raked Brandt Snedeker is the defending champion. The European Tour has the Joburg Open in South Africa on its schedule this week. Richard Sterne won the tournament last year.

The men's world golf rankings Top 10, listing player's name home country and rankings points average:

3. Henrik Stenson, Sweden, 8.73

4. Phil Mickelson, United States, 6.94

5. Justin Rose, England, 6.64

6. Zach Johnson, United States, 6.25

7. Rory McIlroy, Northern Ireland, 6.23

8. Matt Kuchar, United States,5.86

9. Sergio Garcia, Spain, 5.86

10. Jason Day, Australia, 5.47
