GUILDHALL, Vt., Jan. 30 (UPI) -- A parent will avoid jail for harassing his daughter's basketball coach over her lack of playing time, but a Vermont judge ordered him to make a public apology.
Superior Court Judge Robert Bent this week in Guildhall, Vt., gave David Tracy, 46, of Pittsburg, N.H., a suspended jail term of 14-15 days for the December 2012 incident in which Tracy confronted volunteer Canaan Memorial High School Coach Stephany Hall after an early-season game about her decision not to play his 12-year-old daughter Kylie, the Burlington (Vt.) Free Press reported Wednesday.
The judge placed Tracy on probation, ordered him to have an apology letter published in a local weekly newspaper, complete 75 hours of community service and pay $219 in restitution to Hall for time she missed from her job as a school nurse because of the case, the newspaper said.
Tracy was found guilty of disorderly conduct last month but was acquitted of assault. A state police affidavit stated Hall claimed Tracy "jabbed her several times in the left shoulder with his hand and that the jabs go progressively harder" while his voice grew louder, the Free Press said.
