SAN DIEGO, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- Andy Murray, for the second straight series, was scheduled for three matches this week in a Davis Cup series sending Great Britain against the United States.

Murray won three matches last September to help boost Great Britain into the Davis Cup World Group for this year. He and the British team will take on the United States in a best-of-five series this weekend to determine who will advance to the tournament quarterfinals.

Murray, ranked sixth in the world, was given an assignment similar to last September's as he'll open the series Friday, take a turn at doubles Saturday and play the often-pivotal first match in Sunday's reverse singles.

Murray's first match is to be against Donald Young, who was inserted into the U.S. lineup to replace the injured John Isner. Isner is No. 13 in the world and Young comes in at 79th but Young is 1-2 versus Murray in his career and Isner is 0-2.

The second singles match Friday has Britain's James Ward meeting Sam Querrey.

Murray and Colin Fleming are to team for doubles against the world No. 1 doubles team of Bob and Mike Bryan, American twins who are a combined -- usually together -- 43-8 in Davis Cup play.

Sunday's play opens with Querrey facing Murray while Young and Ward are scheduled for the fifth match of the series.

The United States and Great Britain have played 18 previous Davis Cup series. The Americans are ahead 11-7, have won the last four meetings and haven't lost to the British since 1935.

The Great Britain-U.S. winner moves into the April 4-6 Davis Cup quarterfinals against either Italy or Argentina.
