NBA: Detroit at Atlanta, ppd. weather

ATLANTA, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- The NBA game between the Detroit Pistons and Atlanta Hawks, scheduled for Wednesday night in Atlanta, has been postponed due to weather.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for Wednesday across central Georgia, predicting hazardous driving conditions due to ice- and snow-covered roads. Temperatures were expected to reach only the low 30s Fahrenheit, with steady winds.

The storm hit Tuesday, leading to motorists being stranded in Atlanta and some students ending up sleeping at schools when they were unable to reach home.

The Pistons were to have traveled to Atlanta after Tuesday's home win over Orlando but were unable to reach Atlanta.

No makeup date for Wednesday's game was announced but both teams have an off day Thursday. However, scheduling the game for that day would force the Hawks into a three-games-in-three-days situation. Detroit is scheduled to be off Friday.
