Grand jury to review death of 'Superfly' Snuka's girlfriend

ALLENTOWN, Pa., Jan. 29 (UPI) -- A grand jury will investigate the 1983 death of the girlfriend of wrestling's Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka, the Lehigh County, Pa., district attorney said.

The death of Nancy Argentino, 23, by head trauma in Snuka's hotel room has remained an unsolved case. Snuka, one of the World Wrestling Federation's most prominent names at the time, was declared the only person of interest in the case but was never charged.

The announcement by District Attorney Jim Martin comes seven months after a chief deputy was assigned to take a fresh look at the case, the (Allentown, Pa.) Morning Call reported Wednesday, noting an autopsy report at the time labeled the case a homicide.

Snuka, now 70, originally told at least five people, including a responding police officer, he shoved Argentino earlier on the day of her death, causing the head injury. He later told police he was misunderstood and said Argentino slipped and struck her head after the two stopped while driving, the newspaper said.

The autopsy noted more than two dozen cuts and bruises to Argentino's body, in addition to the head injury.
