Bode Miller, Ted Ligety, Julia Mancuso named to U.S. ski team

PARK CITY, Utah, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- Five-time Olympic medalist Bode Miller highlighted a slate of 20 competitors chosen Sunday for the U.S. alpine skiing team for the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Miller, competing in his fifth Olympics, will be seeking to repeat his gold medal performance in the men's super combined event in 2010 at next month's games in Sochi, Russia.

He joins Ted Ligety and Julia Mancuso as former gold medalists named to the 2014 squad. Mancuso made the U.S. squad for the fourth time and Ligety was named to his third Olympics.

Also named to the women's squad were 18-year-old Mikaela Shiffrin, Stacey Cook, Julia Ford, Megan McJames, Laurenne Ross, Leeanne Smith, Resi Stiegler and Jacqueline Reiss.

Lindsey Vonn was absent from the women's team after the four-time World Cup champion re-injured her right knee during a November training accident.

David Chodounsky, Erik Fisher, Travis Ganong, Jared Goldberg, Tim Jitloff, Nolan Kasper, Steven Nyman, Marco Sullivan and Andrew Weibrecht made the U.S. men's team.
