Korda takes lead at LPGA event in the Bahamas

NASSAU, Bahamas, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- Jessica Korda overcame windy conditions Friday to shoot a 7-under 66 and take the lead at the midway point of the Pure Silk Bahamas Classic.

Korda finished 36 holes of the opening event on the LPGA Tour this year with a score of 11-under 135 at the Ocean Club.

She is in her fourth year on the tour and has had one victory. She finished among the Top 10 six times in 2013 without a victory.

Paula Creamer, who was paired with Korda during the opening two rounds, shot a tournament-record 65 to seize second place by herself at 136.

"When I'd hit a good shot, she (Korda) hit a good shot, or vice versa," Creamer said. "If she made a putt, I made a putt. It was fun. That's kind of what you want out there."

Michelle Wie and Jenny Suh shared third place at 137. First-round co-leder Lydia Ko shared fifth place at 138 with Na Yeon Choi, Christel Boeljon and P.K. Kongkraphan.

Ko, 16, a two-time winner on the tour as an amateur, is playing in her first event on the circuit as a professional.
