DALLAS, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- A jury sentenced former Dallas defensive tackle Josh Brent to 180 days in jail Friday after he was found guilty of intoxication manslaughter.

Brent was also given 10 years of probation. He was facing a maximum punishment of 20 years in prison.

Brent was found guilty Wednesday and the jury needed two days to decide on the sentencing. The jury found Brent responsible for the death of Jerry Brown, a linebacker on the Dallas practice squad who died of injuries sustained when the car Brent was driving was involved in an accident.

Testimony revealed Brent's blood alcohol level had been above the legal limit at the time of the wreck.

Brent appeared in 44 games over three seasons with the Cowboys after being chosen in the seventh round of the 2010 draft.
