Jan. 23, 2014 at 11:28 PM

TAMPA, Fla., Jan. 23 (UPI) -- Nikita Kucherov scored in the first round of the shootout Thursday and that goal stood up to give Tampa Bay a 4-3 win over Ottawa.

The Senators never led, but came from a goal down three times. Tampa Bay persevered, however, and moved into a tie with Boston for the lead in the Atlantic Division.

Tyler Johnson scored shorthanded for the Lightning in the first period, B.J. Cronbeen put a deflection past Craig Anderson in the second and Ondrej Palat tallied 5:31 into the third period.

Each of those scores gave Tampa Bay the lead, but Ottawa's Erik Karlsson, Clarke MacArthur and Chris Neil all produced a tying goal. Neil's score came with 2:18 to play.

Ben Bishop made 33 saves before turning in a perfect shootout. Anderson gave up three goals on 38 shots in regulation and overtime.
