NHL: Detroit 5, Chicago 4 (SO)

DETROIT, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- Darren Helm's goal in the sixth round of the shootout Wednesday gave Detroit a 5-4 victory over Chicago.

Each side scored twice during the first five rounds before Helm scored against Corey Crawford. Jonas Gustavsson then turned aside Andrew Shaw to clinch the win.

Chicago lost in overtime for the 12th time this season, most in the NHL.

It was a 2-2 game after one period before Patrick Sharp put the Blackhawks in front with a power-play goal. Detroit then took the lead on scores from Kyle Quincey and Gustav Nyquist.

The only third-period goal came from Chicago's Marcus Kruger that tied it with 14:48 left in regulation.

Gustavsson made 31 saves for the victory. Crawford gave up four goals on 31 shots.
