MELBOURNE, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Defending champion Victoria Azarenka was knocked out of the Australian Open in Wednesday's quarterfinals by fifth-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland.

Radawanska had the upper hand during most of the match and advanced with a 6-1, 5-7, 6-0 victory.

Radawanska will face No. 20 seed Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia in the semifinals. Fourth-seeded Li Na of China and Canadian Eugenie Bouchard earned the other semifinal slots earlier.

The second-seeded Azarenka started off on the wrong foot with 17 unforced errors in the first set. She steadied herself in the second to tie the match 1-1, but Radawanska turned into an irresistible force and shut out the champion in the decisive third set.

Radawanska finished the match with 23 winners and 15 unforced errors. Azarenka departed with 33 winners and 47 unforced miscues.
