NHL: Florida 4, Buffalo 3

BUFFALO, N.Y., Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Ed Jovanovski scored unassisted in Florida's big first period Tuesday and the Panthers went on to outlast Buffalo 4-3.

Jovanovski added an assist for the Panthers, who held a 3-2 advantage after the first 20 minutes.

Nick Bjugstad supplied what proved to be the winning goal when he tallied late in the second period for a 4-2 Florida advantage.

Jesse Winchester and Sean Bergenheim also scored and Tim Thomas turned aside 32 saves as the Panthers recorded a second straight win.

Drew Stafford provided two goals and an assist for the Sabres, losers of four straight.

Steve Ott scored and Ryan Miller made 18 saves for Buffalo.
