Snow storm in Italy scrubs women's World Cup downhill again

CORTINA D'APPEZZO, Italy, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Another day of heavy snow led World Cup skiing officials to cancel Sunday's women's downhill at Cortina D'Ampezzo, Italy.

The race had originally been scheduled for Saturday; however the continuing blustery weather scrubbed Friday's training runs and pushed the race itself to Sunday.

"The decision was easy to make this morning," race director Atle Skaardal said. "We received a huge amount of new snow overnight. We would need a minimum of 15 hours to establish the race course again with nice weather which is not the case at the moment."

The International Skiing Federation said the pre-Olympic races were rescheduled again for Jan. 23-25 in Garmisch, Germany.
