NEW ORLEANS, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- New Orleans police confirmed Sunday former Saints safety and NFL Network analyst Darren Sharper is the target of a sexual assault probe in the city.

The five-time former Pro Bowl pick was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department Friday in connection with two alleged sexual assaults in west Los Angeles -- one in October and one this month.

Sharper, 38, of Miami, was released from jail after posting a $200,000 bond just before midnight Friday, LAPD spokeswoman Sally Madera told CNN.

Jail records indicated he is set to appear in court Feb. 14 for arraignment.

NOPD spokeswoman Remi Braden told the (New Orleans) Times-Picayune in a written statement Sharper has also been accused of sexual assault in the Louisiana city, but has not been arrested or charged there.

"As with every case alleging sexual assault, information gathered is extremely sensitive, and the top priority of the detectives is to protect the person who filed the complaint," Braden said.

Orleans Parish Assistant District Attorney Christopher Bowman told the newspaper prosecutors are reviewing the allegations.

Sharper, who played for Green Bay, Minnesota and New Orleans during a 14-year career, has been suspended from his analyst post with the NFL Network, the broadcaster said in a statement issued to NFL.com.

The defensive back played in Super Bowls with the Packers in 1998 and with the Saints in 2010.
