KA'UPULEHU, Hawaii, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Bernhard Langer drained five straight birdies down the stretch on his way to an 8-under-par 64 Sunday, claiming the Mitsubishi Electric Championship in Hawaii.
Langer, who entered the final round tied with Fred Couples atop the leaderboard in the season-opening event, began his streak at the 13th hole and proceeded to pull away from Couples and Jeff Sluman for a three-stroke victory.
He finished at 22-under 194 for his 19th career Champions Tour victory.
Sluman ended up with a final-round 7-under 65 and Couples logged a 67 to share second place at minus-19 at Hualalai Golf Club.
Jay Haas (65) claimed sole possession of fourth at 17-under.
Rocco Mediate (67) earned fifth one shot further back.
Mark O'Meara (70) and David Frost (69) knotted for sixth at 15-under 201.
