Police say Hernandez may have been shooter in two other homicides

BRISTOL, Conn., Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Boston police believe Aaron Hernandez may have been the shooter in an unsolved 2012 double homicide, court documents released Thursday say.

Hernandez, 24, formerly with the New England Patriots, is in custody and charged with the killing of Odin Lloyd in June 2013 in North Attleborough, Mass.

A Connecticut judge Thursday unsealed a search warrant affidavit requesting permission to search a vehicle police said they believe was involved in a July 2012 drive-by shooting of two men, Daniel Abreu, 29, and Safiro Furtado, 28, and found parked at the Bristol home of Hernandez' uncle.

There is "probable cause to believe that Aaron Hernandez was operating the suspect vehicle used in the shooting homicides of David Abreu and Safiro Furtado, and may have been the shooter," the affidavit reads in part.

The affidavit also says the vehicle may have been stored, untouched, for more than a year after the shooting in the garage at the home of Hernandez' uncle.

Police seek to search the vehicle because "gunshot residue may still exist in the vehicle," investigators wrote in the affidavit.

Hernandez has not been charged in the deaths of Abreu and Furtado, but the allegation in the affidavit suggests Hernandez may have played games for the Patriots in the 2012-13 season after he committed murder, the Boston Globe said Thursday.
