Jan. 16, 2014 at 10:34 PM

SUNRISE, Fla., Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Alex Stalock stopped 24 shots for the first shutout of his career Thursday, carrying San Jose to a 3-0 win over Florida.

This was Stalock's 14th NHL appearance, 11 of them coming this season. He ran his 2013-14 record to 6-2, having stopped 33-of-35 shots in a shootout win over Chicago in his previous outing.

San Jose won for the 30th time this season, but remains a distant second to the hot Anaheim Ducks in the Pacific Division.

The game was scoreless until Joe Thornton beat Tim Thomas with 51 seconds to play in the middle period. Matt Nieto and Joe Pavelski broke things open in the third.

Thomas made 36 saves in the loss.
