NEW YORK, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Henrik Lundqvist turned aside 38 shots Thursday and had to make every save to bring the New York Rangers a 1-0 victory over Detroit.
It was the third shutout of the season for Lundqvist and the 48th during his nine years in the NHL. He had a career-high 11 shutouts during the 2010-11 season.
The only goal of the game came from Mats Zuccarello with 5:58 remaining in regulation. It was the 12th goal of the season for Zuccarello, who is the only NHL player listed on the roster of the team from Norway that will compete in next month's Olympics.
Jimmy Howard took the loss despite making 47 saves.
Detroit suffered its second straight 1-0 setback. The Red Wings fell by that score against Anaheim on Sunday. They concluded a five-game, cross-country road trip with a 2-3 record.
