TAMPA, Fla., Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Frans Nielsen scored in the first round of the shootout Thursday and that goal stood up to bring the New York Islanders a 2-1 win over Tampa Bay.

The Islanders continued their recent revival by winning for the fifth time in six games. Nevertheless, they remain in last place in the Metropolitan Division.

Kevin Poulin stopped 29-of-30 shots in regulation and overtime before blanking the Lightning in their three shootout attempts.

Tampa Bay's only goal came from Martin St. Louis on the power play 5:45 into the first period. Thomas Vanek tied it with a power-play goal that came with 1:38 to go in the middle stanza.

Ben Bishop earned the victory by making 29 saves.
