ATLANTA, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Former NBA player Javaris Crittenton, out on bond on a murder charge, has been jailed after being tied to an Atlanta drug trafficking operation, officials say.
He was among more than a dozen people arrested in a drug sting, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Wednesday.
"Crittenton and the other suspects are accused of selling multi-kilo quantities of cocaine and several hundred pounds of marijuana during the seven-month investigation dating back to June 2012," said Yvette Jones, spokeswoman for the Fulton County District Attorney's office.
Court records indicate Crittenton, who played college basketball at Georgia Tech, was charged with two counts of conspiracy to violate the Georgia Controlled Substance Act.
He and 13 other people were indicted Friday. The indictment has been sealed by Fulton County Superior Court Judge Shawn LaGrua.
At the time of his arrest, Crittenton, a former first-round draft pick by the Los Angeles Lakers, who also played for the Washington Wizards and the Mphis Grizzlies, had been ordered to observe a 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. curfew curfew while he awaits trial for allegedly shooting and killing Julian Jones, 22, of Atlanta in August 2011. Prosecutors claim Crittenton killed Jones while using a high-powered rifle in an attempt to shoot a man he believed had robbed him.
Crittenton, 26, had been free on $250,000 bond when he was arrested this week.
