RALEIGH, N.C., Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Karri Ramo earned his first career NHL shutout Monday, helping the Calgary Flames break a three-game skid with a 2-0 win over Carolina.

Ramo turned aside 23 shots in the whitewash, his first in 59 career starts with Tampa Bay and Calgary.

The 27-year-old Finn logged 18 shutouts in 173 games for Avangard Omsk of Russia's Kontinental Hockey League from 2009-13.

Mikael Backlund and Sean Monahan each scored for the Flames.

Anton Khudobin turned aside 27-of-29 shots for the Hurricanes, who were blanked for a second straight game.
