49ers fans cannot buy tickets to NFC championship in Seattle

SEATTLE, Jan. 13 (UPI) -- San Francisco 49ers fans claim they have been shut out by the Seattle Seahawks from purchasing tickets to Sunday's NFC championship game in Seattle.

The Seahawks announced tickets to the game can only be ordered by customers with a billing address in any of four Northwest states, Alaska, Hawaii or two Canadian provinces, but not by those with a California address.

The action provoked outrage from 49ers fans who see themselves as victims of discriminatory business practices, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Monday. The newspaper's readers posted comments such, "Obviously the rainheads up there are worried about 49er Faithful diluting their vaunted '12th man.' No problem... the 49ers will take care of business," and "Typical Seattle passive-aggressive behavior. True about the whole city. Don't miss it."

The online newspaper Seattlepi.com noted similar restrictions will be in place for the AFC championship game Sunday in Denver, with tickets available only to those with addresses in eight Rocky Mountain states.
