AUCKLAND, New Zealand, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Lu Yen-Hsun ousted world No. 3-ranked and three-time defending champion David Ferrer in Friday's semifinals of the Heineken Open in New Zealand.
Lu gained the first ATP championship match appearance of his 13-year professional career with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) decision over Ferrer, who was going for a fifth title in Auckland, having won the Heineken Open in 2007 and then the last three years.
