DULUTH, Ga., Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Former NFL wide receiver Carl Pickens was arrested and charged with battery for an alleged attack on his wife, authorities in Georgia said.

Pickens, who played for the Cincinnati Bengals and Tennessee Titans, was taken into custody Sunday, nearly a month after the alleged attack, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

On Dec. 7, Pickens allegedly picked up his wife and threw her on the couch, said a Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department report of the incident. He then allegedly pinned her down by holding her neck and pushed her into the couch, leaving bruises on her neck, the report said.

Pickens, 43, also allegedly threw an iPad against the wall and then stepped on it before fleeing the scene, the report said

On Sunday, deputies arrived at the couple's home to serve Pickens. He and his wife allegedly ignored deputies' orders to come to the door. Pickens then hid in the attic before surrendering to officers.

Pickens was arrested on a misdemeanor battery charge and taken to the Gwinnett County jail. He was released Monday on a $2,000 bond.
