NHL: New York Rangers 3, Chicago 2

CHICAGO, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Carl Hagelin scored the only third-period goal with 5:57 remaining Wednesday, giving the New York Rangers a 3-2 win over Chicago.

The defending Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks had earned at least a point in 10 straight games (6-0-4), but that streak came to an end thanks in large part to a 35-save effort by Henrik Lundqvist.

Lundqvist, who will be on the Swedish Olympic team next month in Sochi, gave up two goals in a span of 2:48 of the second period before blanking the Blackhawks the rest of the way.

Jonathan Toews and Brandon Bollig scored for the Blackhawks in the second period after New York had come up with goals from Brad Richards and Mats Zuccarello in the first.

The winning goal came when Hagelin collected a rebound off a shot by Marc Staal and put it past Corey Crawford.

Crawford stopped 29 shots.
