Jan. 5, 2014 at 1:05 AM

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Jeff Carter scored twice and goalie Jonathan Quick came up big in the closing seconds Saturday, lifting the Los Angeles Kings over Vancouver 3-1.

Carter's first goal came with 7:55 left in the third period and broke a 1-1 deadlock.

Then, with the Canucks pressing for the tying goal in final minute, Quick made a pair of point-blank stops on Daniel Sedin as well as big saves on Brad Richardson and Jason Garrison.

Carter padded the final margin with an empty-netter as the Kings snapped a five-game losing streak.

Dustin Brown also scored and Quick turned aside 27-of-28 shots.

Roberto Luongo made 46 saves for the Canucks, who dropped a second straight following a three-game winning streak.

Ryan Kesler got Vancouver's only goal.
