BRISBANE, Australia, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- World No. 1 Serena Williams defended her Brisbane International championship with a 6-4, 7-5 win Saturday over second-ranked Victoria Azarenka.
Williams fired off 10 aces and didn't commit a double fault in improving to 14-3 all-time versus Azarenka. It was the fifth consecutive meeting between the two that decided a tournament title. Williams is 3-2 in those match-ups.
