International soccer player Akeem Adams dead from stroke at 22

BUDAPEST, Hungary, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- International soccer player Akeem Adams, who played for the Hungarian club Ferencvaros, has died at age 22 following complications from a stroke, the team says.

He died at a hospital in Budapest, Ferencvarosi Torna Club announced on its website Monday.

Adams, who had joined the team in August, suffered a massive heart attack on Sept. 25. Following several surgeries, his lower left leg was amputated after it became necrotic. He suffered a stroke Saturday.

A native of Trinidad and Tobago, Adams made his professional debut at age 16 with Trinidadian team W Connection.
