NEW YORK, Dec. 27 (UPI) -- Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, the only players in NFL history to throw for 50 touchdowns in one season, were named to the 2014 NFL Pro Bowl Friday.
Manning, of the Denver Broncos, and Brady, of the New England Patriots, were two of the six quarterbacks selected to appear in a game that will take on a new look when it is contested next month.
Instead of players from the AFC and NFC facing each other, the teams that will compete will be drafted from the Pro Bowl roster announced Friday. The draft will take place Jan. 22 with Pro Football Hall of Fame members Jerry Rice and Deion Sanders having the final say as to which player will play for which team.
Drew Brees of New Orleans, Cam Newton of Carolina, Philip Rivers of San Diego and Russell Wilson were the other quarterbacks named to the roster.
Those paced on the roster were chosen in balloting by fans, coaches and players.
Brady held the single-season touchdown record heading into this season, having thrown for 50 scores in 2007. Manning broke that record last week, reaching 51 touchdowns with one game yet to play. Manning was selected to the Pro Bowl for the 13th time and Brady was named for the ninth time.
The running backs selected for the Pro Bowl included Jamaal Charles of Kansas City, Matt Forte of Chicago, Frank Gore of San Francisco, Marshawn Lynch of Seattle, LeSean McCoy of Philadelphia and Adrian Peterson of Minnesota.
Andre Johnson of Houston, who will make his seventh Pro Bowl appearance, led the receivers named to the roster.
Kansas City and San Francisco both had eight players selected. The game will be played on Jan. 26 in Honolulu. Players whose teams qualify for the Super Bowl will not participate in the Pro Bowl.
