Nets' Paul Pierce slapped with $15,000 fine for flagrant foul

NEW YORK, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- Brooklyn Nets forward Paul Pierce has been slapped with a $15,000 fine for "clotheslining" Indiana's George Hill, the NBA announced Tuesday.

Pierce was whistled for a flagrant 2 foul and ejected for the incident during the third quarter of Brooklyn's 103-86 loss to the Pacers Monday.

On the play, Hill was racing the length of the court to the basket after intercepting a pass.

He was airborne when Pierce extended his arm across his face and throat, causing Hill to fall hard to the floor.

In handing out the fine, the NBA said Pierce made "excessive and unnecessary contact" on the play.
