DETROIT, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Evgeni Nabokov recorded a 23-save shutout Monday and the New York Islanders blanked slumping Detroit 3-0.

Nabokov shut the door after New York had notched three first-period goals, backstopping the squad to just its third victory in 17 games.

Kyle Okposo, Michael Grabner and Casey Cizikas each netted an early score for the Islanders.

The Red Wings, meanwhile, fell for sixth time in seven home games.

Petr Mrazek stopped 16-of-19 shots for Detroit.
