Giants' Rogers not cooperating, prosecutors drop theft charges

MIAMI, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Florida prosecutors say they had to drop charges against a woman accused of stealing nearly $500,000 in jewelry from an NFL player after he didn't cooperate.

Ed Griffith, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade state attorney's office, said the alleged victim, New York Giants defensive tackle Shaun Rogers, was "100 percent non-responsive," the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported Wednesday.

Subhanna Beyah, 25, had been charged with grand theft after Rogers, 34, said she stole the jewelry from a safe in his Miami Beach hotel room in March while he slept.

Griffith said Rogers contacted prosecutors only once, in September, at which time he indicated "he was not interested in cooperating with the prosecution." However, Rogers told them he would give them his agent's contact information.

He never got back to them and did not return phone calls, the spokesman said.

Two Pompano Beach men have accused Beyah, in separate incidents, of drugging them before stealing their valuables. Prosecutors believe the same thing may have happened to Rogers, the report said.

Rogers, Beyah and others were partying in his hotel room when he decided to sleep, he told police. He put diamond earrings, watches, necklaces and bracelets valued at nearly $450,000 in his room's safe before he went to sleep. When he woke the next morning, the jewelry was gone.
