Evidence indicates driver Anthony Guaetta, 61, was unconscious when the bus veered off a road and crashed into a guard rail and a tree, Pennsylvania State Trooper Robert Hicks said Wednesday at a news conference.
The bus was carrying the Seton Hill women's lacrosse team to a match at Millersville University in Millersville, Pa. The accident killed Guaetta, coach Kristina Quigley, 30, and her unborn fetus, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported Thursday.
Twenty-one others aboard the bus were injured, police said.
"Speed was ruled out as a factor in the crash and no mechanical defects to the bus were found. ... Evidence is consistent with that of a crash involving an unconscious driver," Hicks said in a statement.
