SUNRISE, Fla., Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Brad Boyes launched a shot off the post that beat Jimmy Howard during a shootout Tuesday, hoisting the Florida Panthers over Detroit 3-2.

Florida's Aleksander Barkov scored in the first round of the tiebreaker, but Tomas Tatar came right back for the Red Wings with a score on Tim Thomas.

The Florida goalie came up with a save on Gustav Nyquist in the third round and Boyes followed with the game-winner, sending the Panthers to their third win in four games.

Nick Bjugstad and Sean Bergenheim rallied Florida with one goal each in the third period and Thomas finished with 24 saves.

Pavel Datsyuk, making his first appearance in seven games due to a concussion, scored for Detroit, which lost for the third time in four contests.

Todd Bertuzzi also scored and Howard finished with 25 saves.
