SEACAUCUS, N.J., Dec. 10 (UPI) -- Limos and tailgaters will be seriously curbed at the upcoming Super Bowl game in New Jersey, organizers said.
The parking and transportation rules for the big game were announced this week, and they put the kibosh on tailgating by fans lucky enough to score a ticket.
There will be fewer than 13,000 parking places reserved for the estimated 80,000 ticketholders at the Feb. 2 game, and the rules limit fans' pre-game partying to the confines of their particular space, ESPN.com said.
"You are not going to be able to take out a lounge chair, you're not going to be able to take out a grill, and you're not going to be able to take up more than one parking space," said Al Kelly, chief executive officer of the Super Bowl committee. "It will all be watched very carefully."
The transportation strategy is based on public transportation and shuttle buses. No foot traffic into the MetLife Stadium grounds will be allowed nor will cars be allowed in to "drop off" someone.
Parking passes will be required of all vehicles entering the stadium and those vehicles will not be allowed to leave the premises until after the game. The rule basically eliminates taxis, limos and so-called black cars from car services that are popular in the New York area.
"Nobody is going to be dropped off by black car," Kelly said. "You can have a black car, a green car, a white car, a red car as long as you have parking [pass], and the car needs to stay on the premises the entire time."
Fans will have the option of a $51 shuttle-bus ride or taking N.J. Transit to the stadium stop.
