VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- Rookie Eddie Lack notched his first career shutout Monday, backstopping Vancouver to a fifth straight win, 2-0 over Carolina.

Lack, making his sixth career start, stopped all 31 shots he faced, including 13 in the third period as Carolina tried to overcome a 1-0 deficit.

Chris Tanev scored 3:35 into the game and Jannik Hansen added an empty-netter as Vancouver extended its season-best winning streak.

Justin Peters stopped 24-of-25 shots for the Hurricanes, whose own three-game streak was snapped in the opener of a four-game Western Conference road trip.
