NHL: Florida 2, Detroit 1

DETROIT, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Jonathan Huberdeau put Florida ahead in the third period Saturday and the Panthers recorded a rare regulation win over Detroit, 2-1.

Huberdeau's goal 3:29 into the final period snapped a 1-1 tie and gave the Panthers their first regulation victory over the Red Wings since Dec. 1, 1996 -- a span of 18 games.

During that time, Florida went 0-11-2 with five ties.

Jimmy Hayes also scored and Shawn Matthias added two assists as the Panthers won a second straight overall.

Tim Thomas made 22 saves.

Danny Cleary scored and Jonas Gustavsson stopped 35 shots for the Red Wings.
