NHL: Carolina 5, San Jose 3

RALEIGH, N.C., Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Elias Lindholm put Carolina in front with the third of four goals scored by the Hurricanes in the final period Friday en route to a 5-3 win over San Jose.

The Sharks had a 2-1 lead heading into the third, but were overwhelmed by a Carolina assault that brought the Hurricanes their third straight victory.

Riley Nash and Jordan Staal scored during the first seven minutes of the closing period to give Carolina a 3-2 lead, but Justin Braun lifted the Sharks back into a tie with 10:25 to go.

Lindholm then deflected a shot past Alex Stalock with exactly six minutes left and Staal added an empty-net goal with 31 seconds remaining.

It was the fifth win in six games for Carolina, which was helped along with 22 saves from Cam Ward. Stalock stopped 30 shots.

San Jose has lost two straight on the heels of a six-game winning streak.
