NHL: New York Rangers 3, Buffalo 1

BUFFALO, N.Y., Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Henrik Lundqvist took a shutout deep into the third period Thursday and eventually stopped 26-of-27 shots in lifting the New York Rangers over Buffalo 3-1.

The Sabres suffered their 23rd loss, most in the NHL.

Rick Nash scored the only goal of the first two periods, beating Ryan Miller with 2:13 to go in the opening stanza.

The Rangers finally broke the game open in the third on goals by Brad Richards and Mats Zuccarello.

Lundqvist did not allow a goal until Tyler Ennis produced his fifth of the season with 2:16 remaining in regulation.

Miller made 28 saves in taking the loss.
