DENVER, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Colorado Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov returned to court Monday for an advisement hearing Monday on the assault charge he faces.

In the brief hearing, the judge continued the $5,000 bond for the 25-year-old Russian native. In an arrest affidavit, his 24-year-old girlfriend, Evgeniya Vavrinyuk, accuses him of knocking her down with a kick, stomping on her chest and dragging her by her hair in an Oct. 30 altercation.

Varlamov told the judge he has read and understands the restraining order Vavrinyuk has obtained against him, The Denver Post reported.

Varlamov's next hearing on the misdemeanor third-degree assault charge will be Jan. 22, when he will be able to enter a plea, newspaper said.

He has been traveling and playing with the Avalanche since his arrest.
