NEW YORK, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- The NBA will fine Brooklyn Coach Jason Kidd $50,000 for spilling a drink onto the court during a game Wednesday, Yahoo! Sports reported Thursday.

Kidd's move was an obvious attempt to stop the clock during his team's eventual loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.

His plan was made clear by video replays that showed he told point guard Tyshawn Taylor to bump into him so he could have an excuse for spilling the drink.

After the game Kidd denied spilling the liquid on purpose, saying his palm was sweaty and the cup slipped out of his grasp.

Brooklyn did not have a time out remaining at the time of Kidd's action. The Nets have gotten off to a 4-11 start in Kidd's first season as coach.
