The Fox Spanish-language network will televise Super Bowl XLVIII live from Met Life Stadium in New Jersey, as well as Super Bowl Super Bowl XLIX in Arizona. In past years, the networks have included Spanish language audio only with graphics appearing on screen in English.
Fox Deportes will also begin full Spanish television broadcasts for some regular season games -- beginning Thursday with the annual Detroit Lions Thanksgiving game -- in addition to the full slate of Fox NFL playoff games, culminating with the Super Bowl, The New York Times said Tuesday.
"Clearly, the Hispanic market has, and continues to be, a major priority for us," said Peter O'Reilly, vice president for fan strategy and marketing for the NFL. "We have a large and growing Hispanic fan base, and we're seeing growth among the more Spanish-dominant segment."
The Fox Deportes announcers will be John Laguna and Francisco X. Rivera, who have experience calling NFL games in Spanish, the Times said.
