NHL: San Jose 2, New Jersey 1

SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 24 (UPI) -- Antti Niemi stopped 18-of-19 shots Saturday and the San Jose Sharks rode a pair of first-period goals to a 2-1 victory over New Jersey.

Niemi made nine saves in the third period to help the Sharks hang on for their fifth win in six games.

Scott Hannan and Tyler Kennedy each scored in the early going to provide San Jose's offense.

Patrick Elias got the Devils' only goal on a third-period power play.

Martin Brodeur made 28 saves for New Jersey, which wrapped up a three-game California road trip with a 2-1-0 mark.
